Little Golden Book’s Kenner Cameo

Last year Random House Kids began releasing all-new Little Golden Books based on the Star Wars universe. The first wave of books featured movie adaptations of the saga. Following the release of The Force Awakens, a seventh adaptation was released. The next and newest wave centers around a series of "I Am a ______" books. In the book entitled Star Wars: I Am A Droid, written by Christopher Nicholas and illustrated by Chris Kennett, a familiar dark blue square droid appears. Kenner's Power Droid from their original 21 line can be found on the third to last page making this the most recent Kenner cameo to date. This illustration is distinctly a tribute to Kenner's action figure as the actual "Gonk" droids whom appear in the film look very [...]

More Kenner in Star Wars Rebels

Now that The Force Awakens hype has begun to simmer down just a bit after a month of destroying all-time movie records Lucasfilm has begun shifting their focus by releasing the trailer for the second half of Star Wars Rebels Season 2. And with this action-packed trailer comes a bunch of guest-stars from the Star Wars universe.  Joining Ahsoka and Rex, this season will feature characters from The Clone Wars such as Hera's father Cham Syndulla as well as a few Jedi Temple Guards (with one having a very Snoke-ish tone) followed by a Matt Lanter-voiced Anakin Skywalker via a Holocron. Returning from The Prequels will be Bail Organa and the undefeatable Darth Maul whom is now referred to as "Old Master". Thanks to Matt [...]

Merry Christmas ’83

Christmas 1983 was a very memorable one! That Christmas was not only full of loads of Star Wars gifts from Santa and my folks but it was the year I received one of my most played with toys ever. The Millennium Falcon finally landed at my house courtesy of the big fat man in the red suit. This toy would smuggle countless figures in its secret cargo hold, blast Imperials out of the sky with its gunner turret and enter into Hyperspace on a daily basis for years to come. The collecting bug had bit years before, but Return of the Jedi was when it really took off. Now 32 years later, I'm sure 7-year-old Jake would not be shocked to learn that every last Star Wars [...]

Star Wars Nostalgia On the Rise

"We're bringing to life the nostalgia that many young parents feel about Star Wars and Kraft, and creating new and exciting ways to experience them together as a family," says Scott Glenn, brand manager for Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. With Star Wars now once again approaching fever pitch as anticipation grows toward the debut of The Force Awakens, it’s become clear that it’s not just the new Star Wars that’s on everyone’s mind. A new appreciation for Star Wars nostalgia and vintage collectibles have become the focus of not just fans but corporate America as well. Companies like Sony have skewed their Star Wars advertising to an older demographic with the inclusion of Star Wars nostalgia. Kraft Macaroni as well has gone as far as [...]

Star Wars Sneak Preview Figures – Then and Now

Kenner and Hasbro have both had a long history of releasing special preview figures prior to the debut of each new Star Wars film and its respective action figure line. As we ready ourselves for The Force Awakens figure line which will be premiering on #ForceFriday (September 4th, 2015) we are taking a brief look back at each Sneak Preview figure offered throughout the last 38 years. Star Wars (1977) Although it did not proceed the actual film or include any figures initially the Early Bird Kit was not only the first item released from Kenner’s seminal line but it also gave collectors their first taste of the Star Wars action figure onslaught that was to come. Early Bird Certificate Package; figures were to arrive [...]
