The Bounty Hunters 2-Pack includes modern reissues of two famous Kenner figures from The Empire Strikes Back. Dengar and IG-88 are coming to the retro line later this year in this two-pack. More Fan Celebration Reveals

This past week Hasbro continued their Fan Celebration reveals by showing off the next member of The Bad Batch and two all-new Vintage Collection sculpts. Last Thursday, Wrecker was announced to be joining his clone brothers from the upcoming animated series which were revealed a few months ago. The next day on Friday, IG-11 from The Mandalorian and Bespin Lando Calrissian were finally shown off. Both of these figures were part of the pipeline reveals made a few weeks ago during Hasbro's last LiveStream event of 2021. Wrecker was made available for pre-order this past Friday but both TVC figures will be put up for presale in the future. Hasbro has provided us with their official press release information and photos. STAR WARS: THE BLACK [...]

The Empire Strikes Back Toys ‘R’ Us News Footage

On May 21st, 1980, ABC7NY's Peter Bannon filmed a segment about Star War toys on the day of the release of The Empire Strikes Back. The raw footage has just surfaced thanks to btm0815ma on YouTube. The film's footage is simply mesmerizing as it depicts the now-all-but-extinct Toys 'R' Us in its prime. From teeming shelves to open product displayed above and around the store, gave the retailer a feel of being a true toy store and not a cookie-cutter corporation which it would become. This film also draws significance in regards to the toy shelves of the 2020s which are notably characterized by empty pegs and shelf space. This video is a joy to watch [...]

Hasbro Pulse Exclusives Press Release

This morning Hasbro through a handful of media partners announced three new sets that will be available for collectors in September. Screenrant announced a 6" Kenner-inspired addition to The Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary Collection line, The Wampa. This set is the first of its kind as it features Black Series action figures on the packaging to truly mimic the vintage Kenner release. Typically Black Series figures either use the black line art of Gregory Titus or the vintage card back images. The next release came via Cnet.com who debuted the lastest Special Action Figure Set for The Vintage Collection. This Clone Wars based three-pack includes members of the 501st Legion, Echo, Jesse and Fives. Each of these figures was featured extensively throughout The [...]

Fan First Monday Press Release & Images

Yesterday, Hasbro live-streamed their first-ever Fan First Monday event (you can watch it here). The event revealed products for both The Black Series and The Vintage Collection. It is assumed that these would be some of the announcements that were originally set for San Diego Comic-Con this year but due to its cancelation, Hasbro is revealing them online. It was discussed during the stream that exclusives intended for the event are still being worked out in regards to their release. Hasbro is continuing to support the 40th Anniversary of Episode V in both their scales and the much-rumored Bespin playset made its official debut. Now as rumored, this set requires two playsets to make the whole Carbon Freeze Chamber and preorders for this set and [...]

The #RetroRedo Challenge! – UPDATE

UPDATE - Inspired by our good friend Jayson over at Yakface - we are expanding the contest to include redos or new variations of the front of the box as well! See contest and examples down below! Over the past month, the Retro Collection wave of The Empire Strikes Back figures (which currently are Wal*Mart exclusives) have arrived at many stores and mailboxes across the country. The six figures in the wave, which include near-Kenner replicas of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker (Bespin), Yoda, Lando Calrissian, Han Solo (Hoth) and Leia (Hoth), have become highly sought after not just for their nostalgia factor but also due to the poor quality online orders are arriving in and lack of any other new 3 3/4" figures currently on the [...]

The Wal*Mart Dilemma

This past week many collectors across the country have begun to find in stores and/or be delivered their Wal*Mart preorders of the exclusive Retro Collection wave two based on The Empire Strikes Back. For those finding them in stores, it appears only some Wal*Marts are placing these on pegs as many have chosen to simply stack them on the shelves. Regardless of the stocking of these figures they both appear to both be generally mint when found in stores and unfortunately for many to disappear from shelves fairly quickly. Stores appear to be getting one or two cases of the figures in this initial release. The card backs on these figures are much thinner than their true vintage counterparts and are very susceptible to arching [...]

12″ Boba joins Lights! Camera! Action (Figures)!

A huge thanks to our friend and resident '80s movie expert Dan Geister as he has passed on our lastest update to our Lights! Camera! Action (Figures)! entry. In the 1983 film, High School U.S.A., Michael J. Fox is a high schooler who wants to date a popular girl. As you can see from the image above, Kenner's 12" Large Action Figure Boba Fett makes a cameo sitting about a desk. List Boba Fett was first released in 1979 prior to his film debut in May of 1980. He was then re-released in 1980 in The Empire Strikes Back packaging once the film was released. For more appearances of Star Wars action figures in films and television, check out our Lights! Camera! Action (Figures)! in [...]
