Our second Rebels Review focuses on Toys ‘R’ Us’ newest action figure exclusive.  Technically part of the Mission Series line which began in Hasbro’s recent Saga Legends line, this set defies some of the basic characteristics that have come to define a Mission Series set.  This set comes boxed and includes three figures, whereas previous non-exclusive sets have come packaged to be hung on pegs and only include two figures.

This set also includes a gimmick which Hasbro has never done in its action figure line before. The package has a secondary title “Reveal the Rebels: Jedi Reveal” and includes a blacked-out window that includes a “Secret Exclusive Figure Inside”. Where this is fun for kids to not know who the hidden figure is, for anyone who can read the set’s description on the back it will be easy to guess who the Jedi to be revealed will be.

Born the day the Galactic Empire was founded, Ezra Bridger has been a lone rebel for his entire life.  That is, until he crosses paths with Kanan Jarrus and discovers a mysterious hologram from a Jedi named Obi-Wan Kenobi.  What secret will be revealed?

This set description gives a bit of interesting back-story to Ezra and most likely sets up for a plot point to be delivered by Kenobi early in the season.

Kanan Jarrus

This figure has the now common 5 points of articulation (5POA).  His sculpt is pitch perfect when compared to what has been shown in the trailers, shorts and extended previews. His paint apps are a return of Hasbro’s best abilities as they are clean and thoroughly applied.  Despite being based on a “cartoon” this figure could easily fit in with other figures based on real film characters.  Kanan’s lightsaber, although lacking in color detail, is sculpted accurately to what is used in the show and the Jabba’s Palace looking blaster at his side while appearing to be removable, it is not and is sculpted into his holster.

Ezra Bridger

Ezra’s figure like Kanan’s also has 5POA.  His sculpt is again very much a replica of what we have seen of the character on television and other promotional materials. Now unlike Jedi Jarrus, his paint apps are nowhere near as tight, and there are multiple places where the paint has bleed or ran onto a place it shouldn’t. Bridger is scaled correctly when placed next to the other figures and his only accessory in this set is an AT-DP Driver’s helmet.  This helmet fits very snuggly, in a good way, and looks just a hair too big for his body which is perfect as he is still just a 15-year-old kid.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

This is not Obi-Wan’s first holographic figure (for a list of Holographic and Spirit figures visit our friends at Jedibusiness.com) but it is the first time he has had 1 point of articulation (1POA). Regardless of your articulation needs or preferences, this is a fantastically sculpted figure.  His robes have a fabric texture applied and his sleeves are tucked into each other which mimic his film persona perfectly. The figure is very light due to it being hollow but this makes for an added bonus as it is easy to light-up to resemble a true holographic message. It has already been revealed that Ezra and Kanan’s figures will be rereleased multiple times, but it is this figure that we desire the most to see rereleased and possibly with painted features.

Overall this is a great set and at $19.99 each figure breaks down to being just a bit over six and a half dollars apiece which is not bad for a Toys ‘R’ Us exclusive set.  The average cost for a Saga Legends figure is $6 which means TRU was very conservative with their mark-up on this set which gives up hope for their future exclusives not being overpriced like their past exclusive Millennium Falcon from The Vintage Collection.

One other thing this set did reveal was who the hatch on the AT-DP was truly intended for. To read our Rebels Review of the AT-DP click here.

In conclusion this set revealed itself to be fantastic and we encourage all Rebels fans to answer the Toys ‘R’ Us call to pick it up and defeat the evil Empire!

Until next time,

May the Figures be with you!
