[UPDATE] – New Rebels figures were revealed via USAToday.

Last night’s episode of Star Wars Rebels brought not only another familiar character into the series but the close of Season 1. WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD! Episode 13 “Fire Across the Galaxy” confirmed what many had speculated and leaked for the last few months, Fulcrum’s true identity to be Ahsoka Tano. The much loved ex-Padawan of Anakin Skywalker hasn’t been seen since the finale of the Season 5 of The Clone Wars.  The freshman season saw a total of 11 major characters from the cinematic side of the galaxy far, far away.

Original Trilogy Character Appearances in Star Wars Rebels

  • Darth Vader (James Earl Jones)
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • c-3PO (Anthony Daniels)
  • R2-D2
  • The Emperor via Holonet
  • Yoda (Frank Oz)
  • Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams)
  • Grand Moff Tarkin

Prequel Era Character Appearances in Star Wars Rebels

  • Bail Organa
  • Luminara Unduli via Hologram
  • Ahsoka Tano as Fulcrum (Ashley Eckstein)

Now when it comes to action figures based on the Lucasfilm animated series, Hasbro has to date only produced 17 distinct characters and 4 vehicles from Season 1. Four additional characters are set for release later this year. And if Hasbro sticks true to their statements from Toy Fair last month, these will be the only Rebels figures seen until New York Comic Con in October.

We are crossing our fingers that we will eventually see some additional figures and toys from Season 1 in future. We’d love to see Fulcrum, Jho the bartender, Cadet Zare, Bail Organa, Chopper in disguise, Sabine’s multicolored TIE Fighter, Lando, Tarkin and of course the potentially new heavy of the series (now that The Inquisitor has appeared to bite the bullet) Darth Vader.

All in all, Star Wars Rebels has turned into a show that is rich in vintage Star Wars designs and concepts and captures elements of the Original Trilogy (despite the whole final action sequence of the finale mirroring the final action sequence of The Phantom Menace).  Now its clear the OT is of primary concern for creators as it takes place just four years before A New Hope and is clearly introducing a new audience to many of its characters. In the beginning, many hoped with a title like Rebels the series would take more of a Red or Rogue Squadron angle but the show is rooted more deeply in the Rebellion’s roots.

Now for those attending Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, they will not have to wait that long for Season 2 as it will be debuting at next month’s official convention. We plan on being in attendance and look forward to viewing it with many of you.
