Have a Blast with Retroblasting!

This past weekend, we had the great pleasure of making the acquaintance of Michael and Melinda from Retroblasting. Retroblasting is a great Youtube channel focused on analyzing, critiquing, restoring and mostly celebrating toys and cartoons from the 80's. And since Star Wars action figures played a big part of that era, Retroblasting has paid it the attention it deserves on multiple occasions.  Michael and Melinda do such a thorough job in their episodes and restoration guides that we have added them to our "Collecting Resources" page and plan on hosting all their Star Wars focused videos here in the future. But for now, we collected a few of our favorite Star Wars action figure themed episodes and have posted them below. Do yourself a favor and give them [...]

“Still…there’s something familiar about this [cast]”

Our excitement is running high for Star Wars Rebels coming this fall to Disney XD.  And even though we've been introduced to only a couple of characters so far, its clear that the cast consists of a set of archetypes that we are very familiar with in the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Let us know what you think about the cast of Star Wars Rebels so far by sharing your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Toy Raid on Rogue Toys, Las Vegas

On a recent trip to Las Vegas with our good friends from IGrewUpStarWars.com, we visited a very cool little toy shop: Rogue Toys.  Located on the south end of the Las Vegas strip (kitty corner from the Pawn Stars site) the shop features a good amount of the its retail space devoted to Star Wars toys.  The owner Steve Johnston has been in the location for just a few months but has already amassed an impressive amount of vintage Star Wars. Lots of loose vintage figures and boxed vintage vehicles, carded Power of the Force 2 figures and various boxed modern multipacks join a healthy collection of Transformers, GI Joes, superheroes and other new and old toys. The next time you are in Las Vegas [...]

1977 Star Wars (Action Figure Checklist)

From 4-LOM to Zuckuss presents the first in a new series of Action Figure Checklists.  This checklist represents one-of-everything Kenner originally intended for retail within its Star Wars action figure line; which was launched in 1977 with their Early Bird Mail-Away offer. The following is the basis for our Retail Checklists: This list does not include any loose variants, package variants or items from Kenner's international affiliates such as Palitoy, Glasslite, Lili Ledy and the like. Each toy will be broken down into the following 8 categories, when applicable: Basic Figures, Deluxe Figures, Multipacks, Creatures, Vehicles, Playsets, Accessories and Mail-Aways. All names/descriptions listed are taken from the toy's packaging upon its initial release. All figures, creatures and vehicles available with that item will be listed. Unless individually numbered, [...]

Manly Art’s Pimp2-D2

Artist Jason Chalker AKA"Manly Art" has created a very cool and unique vintage collectible: Pimp2-D2.  His new spin on R2-D2 is not a custom of the vintage figure but a newly cast mold in resin based off of the original droid.  As the package indicates (and more likely motivated by Lucasfilm intimidation) this is not a toy but a collectible.  Originally offered at last year's New York Comic-Con, Pimp2 was released online through The Manly Art Shop this past December.  The purple droid retailed for $50 but like most vintage-themed Star Wars items, proved to be very popular and is now sold out.

The Star Wars Holiday Special Action Figure Celebration

In any self respecting vintage fan's house, the holiday season does not begin with Thanksgiving but instead with Life Day.  That’s right, tomorrow, November 17 is the 35th anniversary of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special.  And like many old school aficionados, we'll be dusting off our bootleg DVDs (purchased from some shady booth at a comic-con long past) in order sit down and enjoy close to two hours of mostly forgotten Star Wars lore. Shown only once in 1978, virtually denied by George Lucas himself and never released since; the Holiday Special is a “special” type of Star Wars media.  It holds the honor of being one of the first Star Wars spin-offs to ever be produced.  A fact that is widely forgotten in today’s Star Wars saturated [...]
