Gold Leader Celebrates Canada Day

Happy Canada Day to all our friends to the North! We thought we’d take this occasion to share this great little background about Star Wars’ own Rebel Canadian provided by our friend and proud Canadian Mike MacDonald: A little known fact about the original Star Wars is that it features Canadian actor, Angus MacInnes, who has also appeared in Force 10 From Navarone, Witness, Strange Brew (w/ Doug and Bob MacKenzie!) and Hellboy. Senate Duel (MS10) Review

The tenth Mission Series 2-pack, "Senate Duel (MS10)" featuring Darth Sidious and Yoda, is finally beginning to show up at online retailers such as HasbroToyShop.com after being MIA for the past few weeks; the other two new sets in its presumed wave/revision, "Bespin" and "Utapau", hit retail awhile back.  This set follows the same pattern as the other two: one new figure, Darth Sidious, and one repack, Yoda. If you already purchased the Saga Legends Yoda, the ever-so-slight paint variations on this one are negligible...the only real difference on my MS sample is the superior paint job on his pupils. I'm a big fan of this Yoda; if I had to narrow my PT Yodas down to just one figure, it would be this one.  [...]

So much still to learn!

It never ceases to amaze us on the amount of knowledge that is discovered on a regular basis. One would think that after 35+ years, the amount of new information on our favorite little plastic space men might start to dry up but its great podcasts, blogs, and forums that continue to reveal fascinating facts and discoveries. The most recent episode of The SWCA Podcast (aka The 'Chive Cast Vintage Pod) which despite having a Lobot focus revealed pretty amazing fact about the Kenner's Jawa figure.  New Kenner documents obtained by Ross Cuddie and shared by Ron Salvador on the show, explain how the Jawa was originally intended to not have a cape or robe at all.  This makes perfect sense as the original sculpting of the figure [...]

New Pics from Artist Boutros77

Its always a good day when our e-mail includes picture updates from Carl BouMansour aka "Boutros77" of his amazing custom action figure dioramas!  For new readers, we featured Boutros77 in our Fans of Force Figures exclusive interview earlier this year.  The customizing genius is hard at work increasing his already impressive Jabba's Palace diorama and shared the following pictures with us. It goes without saying that we are big fans of his work.  We wish desperately Hasbro could take a note from Boutros77 as the amount and quality of playsets and diorama pieces in Hasbro's modern line is sorely lacking.  But we are entering a new era in Star Wars, so we will remain optimistic that with new movies and media, Hasbro will develop new [...]

Mission Series vs. Movie Heroes

When it comes to the Saga Legends/Mission Series, Hasbro's 5 points of articulation line of figures, its very easy for Hasbro to hit or miss.  Hasbro has stated that their limited amount of articulation would translate to producing some of the best figures sculpts out there.  And true they have had some clear hits lately with their Stormtrooper, Boba and Jango Fett figures. But unfortunately their misses are starting to overtake their hits.  Now this is hard to admit because we are huge fans of the 5POA concept and its nod to the vintage toys we grew up with. Happy I Am Your Father’s Day

Its hard to believe that its been 7 years since Hasbro released their Wal*Mart exclusive Father's Day card/action figure set.  This release remains unique as it not only turned into it's own gift box but is the only holiday-themed set Hasbro has ever created outside of their handful of Christmas sets.  Released in 2007 as part of The 30th Anniversary Collection this set wasn't as largely produced as Wal*Mart exclusives typically are. Of the figures included, just one was just unique enough to give loose collectors motivation to purchase it.  The unfatherly Darth Vader figure was a straight repack of the Throne Room Duel release from 2003's Star Wars "Saga" line.
