Gift of the Galaxy Celebrates the Prequels!

This morning as part of Star Wars Gift of the Galaxy product program, Hasbro announced three new action figure sets. With 2024 being the 25th anniversary of the Prequel Trilogy, all of these sets slated for next year are PT focused. While the only Vintage Collection entry this week looks amazing, some have become frustrated over the pricing of this deluxe figure. The last time a super-articulated Jango was released in TVC (1) it retailed for $8-9 making this release 12 years later a 300% increase with just as many accessories. On the flip side, the Retro Collection comes in priced at a cool $60 for 6 figures, which returns the line to the 10-dollar-price-point. Hasbro has provided us with official images and press release [...]

Episode VII’s Title finally Awakens!

Today Lucasfilm very casually announced the title of the highly anticipated beginning of the next Star Wars trilogy; Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The film, which just wrapped principle photography and is slated for a December 18th, 2015 release, has apparently dropped the numeration which was made popular by the Special Edition and Prequel trilogies. This hearkens back to the Original Trilogy which has been director JJ Abrams' main focus in the creation of this next film. A New Hope -> The Phantom Menace -> The Force Awakens The Empire Strikes Back -> Attack of the Clones -> ? Return of the Jedi -> Revenge of the Sith -> ? Falling inline with the previous first chapters of each trilogy this title is a bit vague [...]

Figure Thoughts: The Hero’s Journey of Episode VII

This week's massive Episode VII (spoiler) concept art leak got us thinking about the cyclical nature of Star Wars and how the next chapter will mirror what has been depicted in the past while making its own distinct mark on the Saga. With Star Wars Rebels' debut earlier this month, the "Hero's Journey" has begun anew.  This newest journey of Ezra Bridger's marks Star Wars' fourth time using this monomyth, with yet another on the horizon. We have seen two cinematic versions culminate in two vastly different ways; one who returns victorious and another who makes it out of the transformative abyss only to fail in completing his journey. The destinies of our television heroes remain unclear as at this point their journey has either been abandoned or has [...]
