Marvel Taps Hasbro for Comic Art

This past week Starwars.com announced a new limited series starring the Dark Lord of Sith. Star Wars: Darth Vader - Dark Visions, which begins in March of next year, includes a cover image of Vader mounted atop a creature and brandishing his lightsaber and an Imperial shield. What is exciting about this art is his shield featuring the Imperial cog which was done by Hasbro in 2005. During their Revenge of the Sith line, Hasbro introduced a very short-lived series, geared to younger kids, called Force Battlers. These 6"ish figures, were more stylized in design and included action features. The first Darth Vader released in this line included the Imperial shield which now appears to be possibly headed for official Star Wars canon if seen [...]

Marvel Film & Television Chronology – Update

In anticipation of this week's release of Avengers: Infinity War we have updated our Marvel Live-Action Film and Television Chronology! The Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU has been an incredible and influential series of films. This week the next film will debut which will add to the ever-growing library which consists of 18 films, 10 television series and numerous direct-to-video short films that make up the [...]

Kenner Cameo – Action Figure Variant Covers

Marvel Comics has been showing Star Wars action figures a lot of love lately with their steady release of variant covers for their Star Wars comic books. The artist John Tyler Christopher has depicted 5 covers to date with one more announced so far. Each "Action Figure Variant" cover features a figure from the first 12 Kenner figures released. Both the cardback and figure illustrations are not meant to be exact replications of the vintage figures but have a very close ascetic to the originals to justify their inclusion in our Kenner Cameo Chronology. 2015 On April 22nd, Marvel Comics will release an 'Action Figure Variant' cover for Star Wars #4 which will feature a carded Kenner-inspired Chewbacca action figure by John Tyler Christopher. On March 11th, Marvel Comics released [...]

Episode 7 Cameo in Star Wars #1

Did Marvel's Star Wars #1 just give us an appearance of an Episode 7 alien? Yesterday Marvel Comics returned to the galaxy far, far away for the first time in close to 30 years. Their return to publishing Star Wars comics was promoted at comic book shops across the country with "Welcome Home" parties that included free swag. The premiere issue of the ongoing series is set to break comic book records by selling 1 million copies. This was helped by the creation of about 100 different cover variants that were made available at numerous exclusive locations (our sympathies to completest collectors).  In our extremely biased opinion the best by far was the incredible cover by John Tyler Christopher which payed tribute to Kenner's vintage action figure line! Now in the story, which [...]

Marvel & Hasbro – Could There be More to Come?

Over the last week, we have been just thrilled to see some of the newest variant covers for Marvel's Star Wars #1.  The new series is set to debut in January with no less than 39 (and counting) different covers so far. It goes without saying that the one that has got us giddy with excitement was none other than last Friday's reveal of the "Action Figure Variant".  The amazing cover by artist John Tyler Christopher is a great tribute to Kenner's vintage packaging.  The image of the figure itself has more of a modern sensibility yet still retains the vintage (and most recently) 5 points of articulation. Our friend Michael over at Retroblasting was quick to jokingly point out that Luke has a screen accurate blue [...]
