Kenner Cameos Present: The F-LER & The YT-XC

Welcome to our newest feature where we will be spotlighting original Kenner (and Hasbro) designs and concepts that have appeared in other forms of media outside of the action figure line. Over the next few months we'll be looking at cameos in comic books, trading cards, novels, television shows, reference guides and much more. To kick-off our inaugural "Kenner Cameo" we are giving you a two-for-one; a Kenner and a Hasbro Cameo from the same source. The Millennium Falcon Owner's Workshop Manual (Haynes) by Ryder Windham, Chris Reiff and Chris Trevas gives you a detailed in-universe look at the famous Modified YT-1300 Corellian Freighter. From floor plans to fuel systems, quad laser cannons to escape pods this book leaves no Falcon stone uncovered. To find [...]

When Sci-Fi influences Star Wars Toys

To those who have ever read or watched any 'making of' or 'behind the scenes' content,  its common knowledge that George Lucas, and all others who have had the chance to play in George's sandbox, did not create Star Wars in a vacuum.  Star Wars instead is rooted in many things.  From mythology to religion, from history to science fiction many aspects of humankind's stories and creations played a key factor in making Star Wars the primary mythology to come out of the 20th century. To no surprise, we here at From 4-LOM to Zuckuss are very interested in the influences that have made their way into the action figure line. Battlestar Galactica has impacted Star Wars in a couple of different ways.  The first [...]

The Action Figure History of Episode III’s Jedi Starfighters

With the recent Saga Legends release of two all-new Jedi Starfigther vehicles, From 4-LOM to Zuckuss is taking a look back at the previous incarnations of the Episode III spaceship.  So sit back, strap-in and put just your headpiece on (because apparently flight suits are not needed during the prequel ear?) as we fly through each release and reissue of the Jedi’s newest and last starfigther. The year is 2005 and the release of Star War Episode III: Revenge of the Sith saw our heroes following the Prequel Trilogy tradition of piloting different vehicles with each successive film.  Unlike the Original Trilogy where X-Wings and Falcons remained steadfast throughout the series, the prequels preferred to switch it up with each new installment.  In the opening [...]

Gold 5’s “History” Report: Large Scale X-Wings

Now that Toys ‘R’ Us’ exclusive X-Wing Fighter is now hitting stores, From 4-LOM to Zuckuss takes a look back at the previous versions of the larger-scaled starfighter which have led up to it’s current release.  Let’s get started by setting your targeting computer back to 1998. Luke Skywalker’s Red 5 X-Wing Fighter Year: 1998 Series: The Power of the Force “2” Source: A New Hope Price: $50 Exclusive: N/A Included: Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 “figures”, Electronic Power F/X features This was the first time that Hasbro had produced an X-Wing that was not based on Kenner’s 1978 mold.  This version was larger and more in scale with the 3 ¾” figure line.  It featured lines of dialogue and sound effects mostly from A New Hope’s trench [...]

Hasbro Cardbacks – 10 Styles and Counting

As new product has finally begun to reach store shelves, collectors are seeing two new styles of Star Wars action figure cardbacks.  In celebration of the release of The Black Series and Saga Legends series, From 4-LOM to Zuckuss is taking you on a brief look back at the different cardback styles of yesterday and today. 1)      “Classic” Style The “classic” style of cardback (established in 1978) set the standard for Star Wars action figure cardbacks with its rectangle 9” x 6” shape.  This is the only style of cardback that does not feature a J-hook type hanger but instead an isolated peg hole.  This is the most widely used and most popular style of cardback. Series to feature this style: Star Wars, The Empire [...]

The Black Series to Debut Over the Pond!

UK website Jedi News has just announced their exclusive plans in partnership with Hasbro to Launch The Black Series.  This event is set to take place on July 19th, at a Toys 'R' Us in London and will also feature exclusive "First Day of Issue" cardbacks.  With no word of "First Day of Issue" cards being released anywhere else it appears that the very first figures released from The Black Series could very well end up being the rarest.  Now Hasbro has attempted "First Day of Issue" stickers before on The Legacy Collection and The Clone Wars series but however these were mass produced and eventually became pegwarmers.  The Black Series will have a significant advantage due to the exclusivity of this event and will [...]
