In 2010, The Official GI Joe Collectors’ Club offered a couple of exclusives at their annual International GI Joe Convention held that year in Providence, Rhode Island. One of the exclusives offered should look familiar to many long time Star Wars action figure collectors. The Red Shadows Secret Base, which was limited to only 500 pieces, was created from the 1997 The Power of the Force 2 Endor Attack playset. The Imperial’s shield generator bunker was converted years later into a secret base for the terrorist group Red Shadows, a group which originally were the Cobra-like villains for the UK version of GI Joe; Action Force.

Its rather interesting that this mold is still bouncing around at Hasbro and despite our love for Star Wars playsets, this particular one had very rickety doors and little play value. This is not the only connection this playset has to a non-Star Wars Star Wars action figure line. The catapult from this playset was actually created a few years prior to the Endor Attack set as a pack-in for the Hewe action figure from Kenner’s Dragonheart line.
