In 2015, super-articulated (SA) Star Wars action figures were given exclusively to Wal*Marts. The mega-retailer released a line that mimicked the packaging of the popular 6″ Black Series. While the character art was outstanding, many collectors did not prefer the figures being packaged in boxes as opposed to the typical cardback. In order to support brand new SA figures, Hasbro reissued older figures in waves between the newer ones. These figures and their distribution was spotty and inconsistent across the country with some states getting one wave or figure that another never did. The line ran until 2017 with the release of The Last Jedi wave. At that point, Hasbro announced the return of The Vintage Collection figures and revoked Wal*Marts exclusive claim to highly articulated figures. This is the final 3 3/4″ series to bare the Black Series name.
