Starwars.com has just announced (what rumors have predicted for months) that Star Wars: The Force Awakens products will be released on September 4th, 2015.

StarWars.com is thrilled to announce that Star Wars: The Force Awakens products will land in our galaxy on September 4, 2015, at 12:01 a.m. — “Force Friday” — with stores around the world opening their doors at midnight for a special celebration of all things Star Wars. It will be a day long remembered.

The packaging follows a long Star Wars and Hasbro tradition of featuring the villain in the design. The color red also confirms what we learned in our Q&A with Hasbro last month at Star Wars Celebration:

From 4-LOM to Zuckuss: Now I am excited to see here at Star Wars Celebration that you guys have in your display cases, new packaging for the The Black Series. We see not only one but two signs saying in both 2015 and 2016. I guess the question would be, and I know you can’t talk about that [other] line, but why the color red?

Hasbro: Why the color red, um, it’s a great color (laughs)! You know one of the things we do every year is, we sort of optimize the packaging to make figures pop the best, to make it sleek and clean and what’s awesome about The Black Series, is the red color really pops off the background. It lets that light in which is really great and also it has a nice tie-in with the overall line we are gonna have in fall ’15.

Whether or not this his Labor Day weekend may be an expensive time for collectors is yet to be known.  The question does remain on how much merch will be released as September 4th does fall 3 1/2 months before the debut of the film. This is a great date for retailers but collectors will most likely have a second release date falling closer to the release of TFA where more product is released that ties more deeply into the movie.

Nevertheless we look forward to celebrating Midnight Madness, at Toys ‘R’ Us, as confirmed at Celebration Anaheim, with you all and expect a lot of this product will now be featured at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Until the madness begins,

May the Figures be with you!
