The Vintage Collection launched in 2010 as Hasbro took note of the popularity of their previous ventures in providing collectors with a touch of nostalgia from Star Wars’ Kenner days. During The Original Trilogy Collection in 2004, Hasbro released a small sub-line of figures which, for the first time since 1985, reused Kenner’s classic style card back design.
Celebrate the legendary Star Wars trilogy that changed the universe forever, with The Original Trilogy Collection. This collection brings to life the incredible story of good versus evil that captured our imagination and took us to a galaxy far, far away. The finest recreations of the iconic Star Wars heroes and villains are back with incredible detail and premium features to commemorate each epic tale in the Original Trilogy: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. And, as a tribute to the dedication of Star Wars fans everywhere, we are re-releasing elements of the original packaging that harken back to the creation of Star Wars action figures, which began over 25 years ago with the Original Trilogy. Now referred to as the “Vintage Original Trilogy Collection” or VOTC, the line consisted of 12 figures, four from each of the original trilogy films.

Then in 2006 during The Saga Collection line, Hasbro released another wave of figures which this time included an Ultimate Galactic Hunt mailaway offer for an exclusive George Lucas Stormtrooper figure. By collecting and mailing in all 5 figures’ Proof of Purchase tabs and $4.95 for
shipping and handling, Hasbro mailed collectors The Maker’s action figure. Also during this second run of vintage-cardbacked figures, Woolworths in the United Kingdom offered a free with purchase rerelease of the 2004’s VOTC Darth Vader. This line has garnered the nickname, VTSC or “Vintage The Saga Collection”.

In 2007, Hasbro released yet another Ultimate Galactic Hunt wave of “vintage” figures. As part of the 30th Anniversary Collection, Hasbro chose instead to create a redemption offer which required the collector to purchase all six figures of the wave as they each included their own unique sticker which then had to be submitted for an exclusive vintage 7-coin collector set. This set, like the waves before it, has become known as the VTAC or “Vintage 30th Anniversary Collection”.

By 2010, Hasbro was ready to head full steam ahead with an entire The Vintage Collection line of figures. It was a massive line which was marketed toward adult collectors as it numbered each figure, was sold at premium prices because of the vintage packaging, included three different waves of “chase” figures, a wide variety of vehicles and featured more exclusives than any previous Star Wars toy line had to date. The line saw some distribution issues toward the end of the line, causing even some waves to be sold online exclusively. By 2013, the line had run its course and went into hibernation until it was announced at Star Wars Celebration Orlando in 2017 that it would return in Spring 2018, picking up where it left off at figure VC115. The Vintage Collection 2 as it is now being called will feature its own checklist and database (coming soon).
