The “This is Us” Kenner Collection

On this week's episode of the award winning drama, This Is Us, vintage Kenner Star Wars action figures were featured prominently. Spoiler Warning! In order to explain the following images we'll discuss the plot of the winter premier episode, "The Last Seven Weeks". When mother-to-be Kate Pearson (played by Chrissy Metz) convinces her husband to sell his collectibles on display in order to make a nursery, a love collection of vintage figures from the Original Trilogy can be seen. Once Toby Damon (played by Chris Sullivan aka Taserface from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) sells his figures, his immediate regret is seen and felt by his wife. So she orders a bunch of replace figures from eBay to pass them off as his originals. But [...]

2005’s Sydney White’s Kenner Figures

One of our favorite pastimes beyond collecting Star Wars action figures is hunting down their various appearances in the media (which we collect in our Lights! Camera! Action (Figure)! database). This week we have recently discovered the 2005 PG-13 teen comedy starring Amanda Bynes, Sydney White, features a smattering of Kenner action figures. The modern telling of Cinderella told through college pledges includes a band of college misfits who, when playing cards, gamble with action figures. One of the lines featured prominently on the card table are vintage Star Wars figures. In addition to a carded The Power of the Force Endor Luke, various other figures can be seen including a mail away vintage Cobra Commander and a pair of Jedi from Hasbro's Unleashed Battle Packs series. Other vintage Kenner figures [...]

The Christmas Chronicles & SNL Figure Appearances

With the Christmas season now underway comes the potential of new Star Wars action figures appearances in films and on television. Whether it is under the tree like Mork, or in the background of a department store like in Cagney and Lacey (still can not track down the image again) or in a jail cell which Santa is trying to escape, 'tis the season for more Lights! Camera! Action (Figures)! appearances. This week we'll add a number of updates to our database but today we will start with two. This past week, Netflix released their much advertised The Christmas Chronicles starring Kurt Russell and if you have yet to watch the film, know that some mild spoilers are ahead. In the film, Santa Claus ends up [...]

Birthday Scavenger Hunt – Day 7: The Rec Room & The Final 4 Figures

Welcome to the final entry in my Birthday Scavenger Hunt! Here's your final reminder to make sure to look over the details on how to play and enter to win all of the toys in the prize box by visiting Day 1’s entry. My family's rec room was a place of great joy for my sister and I growing up. The classic faux wood-paneled room hosted parties, holidays and countless hours of play. Here you can see that behind the present opening from my Transformers birthday (seen on Day 5) the room also acted as an on display toy box. I seem to always prattle on about how much I loved the Micro Collection growing up and here it is on display on the top shelf, a place [...]

Birthday Scavenger Hunt – Day 4: Leia and Vader Visit & POTF2

Welcome to Day 4 of my Birthday Scavenger Hunt! Before we begin my walk down memory lane, make sure you are familiar with the rules about how to play and enter to win. As you can see, I hit the lotto as a kid when it comes to parents. They not only nurtured my interests and passions but also provided memorable holidays and birthdays for me throughout my entire youth. This particular birthday can really only be explained with a series of 'yes' statements. Yes, Darth Vader and Princess Leia came to my birthday party. Yes, they told me they parked the Falcon in the dairy field behind our neighborhood. Yes, I was so petrified of Vader, I couldn't even really look in his direction. Yes, that is a [...]

Birthday Scavenger Hunt – Day 3: Dixie Cups and Snowtroopers

Welcome to Day 3 of my birthday celebration scavenger hunt. And once again, if you are just joining us, make sure to skim off over the rules of play and how to enter Little Jake’s Birthday Scavenger Hunt before proceeding. Today I'll take you back you to 1983 for my 7th birthday. As obvious from today's image, my family and specifically, my Mother, was and is still all about holidays. By the time my birthday came around on the 10th, the house was always already prepped for Turkey Day. Granted, I say this as I write this on the fourth of November while having just brought in the Fall/Thanksgiving boxes for my wife to decorate the mantle. While this birthday image does not ooze with Star Wars [...]

Editorial: Stop Toying with Vintage Kenner-Themed Products

In 2018, products featuring Kenner’s vintage Star Wars action figure line have become quite popular. Everything from backpacks, shot glasses, greeting cards, calendars, and posters have appeared at various retailers both domestically and internationally. While these items are very welcomed and have the potential to strike many a nostalgic feel with longtime fans, it is their gross ignorance of the brand that makes many of these items a laughing matter more than a desirable purchase. Many of the offending products use the same stock figure photos which first appeared a few years ago on the Topps Collectible Card Trader app. The problem begins here as some figures either have no or include the wrong accessories. More recent products have taken these images and applied them [...]

Space Wars Headhammer Review

At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Super 7 who has not only based their line look and action figure designs off of Kenner, released yet another tribute piece and this time it is a pretty deep cut. The Alien - "Space Wars Headhammer" Tribute Xenomorph 3.75" ReAction Figure with coin which retailed for $15 at the convention is a clear nod to the "original" alien Hammerhead from Kenner's 1978 Star Wars line. Now how this repaint of the ReAction Alien figure even makes any sense is because when Kenner was designing the prototype Alien figure back in 1979, they used Hammerhead as the base of their initial sculpt. Image courtesy of aliencollectors.com ReAction's SDCC release would not the be the first time Hammerhead's classic [...]
