Today Hasbro provided us with the latest preorders which go live tomorrow, February 8th. The two new items include one Vintage Collection figure and one Black Series. Both figures are from The Mandalorian and the Vintage Collection figure revealed is a Din Djarin in the Imperial disguise he wore on Morak during Season 2. The second figure announced today is the highly desired Darktrooper. This droid, which has been highly desired since its debut, will be released as a deluxe figure at a higher price point due to the figure’s size.
Speaking of prices, as rumored a few weeks ago, these figures include a slightly higher retail price than their equivalents from 2021. For example, from 2018-2021 the MSRP for TVC figures was $12.99 yet each of the presales offered in 2021 for 2022 were pre-sold at $13.99. And now we are seeing figures offered for preorder in 2022 for later this year pre-sale for $14.99. This would be the second 7% increase in about a year’s time. With no new Star Wars films on the horizon, this means the likelihood of seeing a cheaper more mainline series unlikely as they usually accompany film releases. We’d be in favor of a TVC jr. line which includes a line of less articulated figures full of aliens, droids and, troop builders for a pricepoint more akin to Spin Master’s 3 3/4″ DC Superhero lines.
